Brisbane's Downtown Toyota is proud to support the local community, and in collaboration with Bulimba Cricket Club, launched the club’s 2025 Good for Cricket fundraiser on February 14th. The initiative aims to raise essential funds for field lights.

For several years, Downtown Toyota has been a dedicated partner of the club, playing a crucial role in supporting young cricketers and fostering the growth of the next generation of talent.

Connecting through Cricket

Brisbane Heat cricketer Tom Whitney, Queensland cricketer Lucy Bourke, and Australian all-rounder Ben Cutting joined Downtown Toyota for an exciting event, engaging young cricket fans with a range of activities.

The fundraiser featured an sausage sizzle, inflatable batting and bowling cages, and the chance to interact with cricket stars. Families were also able to explore the Hilux and the all-new electric BZ4X, while capturing memories with photos and autographs from the players.

A Brighter Future for Local Cricket

The fundraiser was a success, with the community coming together to raise over $7,000, which will go directly towards the installation of new lights at the Bulimba Cricket Club's field. Deb Cotter, Secretary of the Bulimba Cricket Club, says the fundraiser was a “game changer” for the future of the local cricket community.

“We are so excited about the new lights as it means we can have many more kids training in the evenings when the weather is cool,” said Mrs Cotter.

These lights will enable the club to extend training and match times, providing a much-needed boost to the growing cricket community in the area.

"We're going to trial some junior in-house twilight cricket games with a pink plastic ball. We're still unsure whether they'll be able to see it well enough, but if successful, it would allow games to start later in the day,” she said.

Hugh Raleigh, Queensland Cricket Government Relations Manager says he was “pleased” with the fundraising efforts from the event and partnership with Brisbane's Downtown Toyota new and used car dealership

“The funds generated will go towards an important project of lighting up their field so more girls and boys can play cricket,” said Mr Raleigh.

Downtown Toyota extends a sincere thank you to everyone who participated in the event and contributed to the fundraiser. Your support will help the Bulimba Cricket Club continue to thrive and provide more opportunities for young cricketers to develop and grow.

“We [now] can spread out and accommodate more teams which is great for a growing club,” said Mrs Cotter.
